The Importance Of Sleep

We all know that a good night’s sleep is important, but we might not know just HOW important. So here’s some context: doctors say sleep is the third pillar of health, along with eating well and exercise. And now they’re calling for a public health campaign — similar to anti-smoking efforts — to help solve chronic sleep deprivation in America.

Guests

Karen Weintraub, Boston Globe health correspondent and contributor to WBUR’s CommonHealth blog. Karen wrote the article, “We Need More Sleep“.

Dr Charles Czeisler, Professor and Head of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Chief of Sleep Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

I wish the host would not interrupt the doctor. Would rather hear what Dr. Czeisler has to say than the reporter or the damn callers. Why not allow us to hear the source of the info – the researcher. The host seems impatient to get away from Dr. Czeisler to get back to the reporter and the callers. Now listening to one caller’s questions about Ambien – which means less time to hear from the source of the knowledge.

Hosts Meghna Chakrabarti and Anthony Brooks introduce us to newsmakers, big thinkers and artists and bring us stories of relevance to Bostonians here and around the region. Live every weekday at 3.
