So Young Park, Queen Of The Night
So Young Park is a diva in the making, and we mean that in the best way. The delightfully named 27-year old Korean native is an up-and-coming opera star. She began singing at the tender age of thirteen and quickly racked up a number of international awards. Her talent eventually brought her to New England Conservatory, where she began taking on big roles.
She’s now making her Boston Lyric Opera debut as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s 1791 fairy tale, “The Magic Flute.” The BLO is hosting the world premier of a new English adaptation of the opera, set in the hallucinatory Mayan ruins in present-day Mexico. So, from the Yucatan, to a Mozart masterwork originally written in German, and now in English, it’s a suitably global story for the sparkling Korean soprano.
Boston Lyric Opera’s “The Magic Flute” opens tonight at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre.
So Young Park, soprano and New England Conservatory student.
James Myers, accompanist.
