ARTery: Furniture Meets Optical Illusion

This week’s ARTery segment takes us to Gallery NAGA on Newbury Street for an exhibit featuring the work of California-based woodworker John Cederquist. It’s part furniture, part optical illusion, blurring the line between the second and third dimensions.

Cederquist says his work is inspired by influences ranging from Popeye cartoons to Japanese block prints, the latter reflected in his collection of “trays” with paintings of tsunami waves and bento boxes.

WBUR’s Sacha Pfeiffer visited the exhibit with an art aficionado particularly fond of Cederquist’s work.

John Cederquist’s “Indecision of Upholstery” is on display at Gallery NAGA through this Saturday.
