The truth is that the relationships sisters have is both a little dream and a little drama. Ok, a lot of dream and a lot of drama. But it’s a unique kind of sibling relationship that is celebrated in the book, “Sisters: An Anthology”

The book features writing by Joan Baez, Dorothy Parker, Edwidge Danticat, just to name a few. There’s a special reading of it this weekend at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester.

Whether you have a sister you’re close with or one you always fight; whether your “sisters” are your closest friends that you just couldn’t live without; or whether your friend, wife or mother is a sister, you know that sisterhood is special.

The famous Ephron sisters, Delia and Hallie, know a bit about sisterhood. In sceenplays like “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” and in novels like “Come and Find Me,” they have written about it.

So, what’s so important about a sister? Do you have a sister? What does sisterhood mean to you?

Guests:

  • Delia Ephron, author of the novel “Hanging Up” and screenplays including “You’ve Got Mail” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”

I have five sisters, all a year or so apart. It seems to be that when we were younger (teens) we had the usual fights about stupid things and then, as we got older, we began to all get along much better, hung out together, and would stick up for each other. Now, we are all in our 50′s, and a couple of sisters just don’t get along with anyone for political/social/entitlement reasons and they tend to start feuds with and between the others sisters. This causes a lot of division within the family and makes for unpleasant holiday get-togethers. I truly hope we can one day repair these relationships before my parents pass on as it hurts them to see we don’t get along.  I always thought we would all love each other above all else, but sadly, that really isn’t the case at all. I do have one sister that I consider my best friend and 2 others who I am very close with, just wish I could say it is all 5 of them.

Boy do I hear you,Keltic12… Why can’t we all just get along? Easy to say, hard to do. Advice my sister gave me long ago: lower your expectations and take what they can give.

YYYYYYAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNN! THis “bonding sisters” drivel is more geared to Oprah than to ostensibly public radio. Please more critical inquiry into real issues and less pandering to cheap sentiments.
