In Newburyport, A Bee-Happy Boy

Most 13-year-old boys have a favorite band, a favorite video game, a favorite athlete. But not Orren Fox. He’s stuck on chickens and bees. We visited him in Newburyport and took a trip to a nearby farm to meet his animals and learn more about his dedication to the local food movement.

I loved hearing Orren’s sincere passion about all that he does. I was particularly moved as he described the shimmering backs of the bees. He was articulate with no “you know”s or even “um”s. It was a pleasure to hear him teach us so much.

Great piece! A fantastic interview by Orren and superb editing/production by the NPR team. To Tim, Jessica, & whomever else contributed, thanks for bringing to light the fun, non-scary, non-threatening experience that working with honeybees really is. It is interesting beyond what you’d ever think without trying it. Don’t believe me?…come to the Topsfield Fair 2-10 Oct & stop into the Bee building for a tour! :-)

Orren is a recent graduate of our Beginner Beekeeping Class. Thanks, Orren for a great job!
