This summer, Radio Boston has been talking with the candidates for governor of Massachusetts. It’s a crowded field — three Democrats, two Republicans and three Independents. And today one of those Independents came to our studio: Jeff McCormick.

McCormick lives in the Back Bay, he’s married with three children, and he’s founder of the Boston venture capital firm Saturn Partners, an early backer of Constant Contact and Boston Duck Tours. He has an MBA and an undergraduate degree in biology, both from Syracuse University, and his campaign is focusing on his private sector experience and job creation.

WBUR’s Sacha Pfeiffer speaks with McCormick about what kind of governor he believes he would be and shares his positions on issues including casinos, medical marijuana, tax hikes and whether Boston should host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

  • “The contest between Baker, the longtime Massachusetts Republican fixture, and McCormick, an independent from Boston, is largely a zero-sum game. Polling data indicate that, whatever McCormick’s vote tally winds up being in November, almost all of his votes will be coming out of Baker’s column.”

The Boston Globe: Gubernatorial Hopefuls Weigh In On Immigration

  • “Jeff McCormick, an independent candidate, said one solution could be for interested families to take in unaccompanied migrant children, rather than asking the state to provide shelter. He said many families are on long waiting lists to adopt children.”
