Senate Race: T-Minus Two Weeks
The special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry is just two weeks away. A new WBUR poll released today shows Democratic Congressman Ed Markey leading his Republican challenger Gabriel Gomez by seven points as the candidates meet for their second debate tonight in Springfield, Massachusetts.
WBUR, “When it comes to registered voters, Democrats hold a 3 to 1 edge on Republicans in Massachusetts. So any GOP candidate for statewide office has to build a big margin among independents to pull off a victory.”
The Republican, “Springfield, Massachusetts’ third-largest city, is overwhelmingly Democratic and could provide a strong base of support for Markey. […] However, Gomez has been taking advantage of his fluency in Spanish and his Latino heritage to campaign in urban areas with large numbers of Latinos, including Springfield.”
