As lawmakers struggle with how to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” it might be instructive to remember that we’ve been here before. We’re reminded of that by the recent passing of New Hampshire Sen. Warren Rudman — a famously cantankerous and plain spoken New England Republican who liked to shakes things up with the truth and who made deficit reduction his cause.
