What’s In Your Pocket? Exploring Boston-Based Apps

America quietly crossed a milestone this week. Now half of all adults in the U.S. either own a tablet or a smartphone, according to the Pew Research Center.

Dovetailing nicely with the smartphone boom is the fact that Greater Boston is also experiencing a boom — in the number of companies developing apps for all those phones and tablets.

So, that inspired us to launch a new Radio Boston feature, where we’ll be discovering new Boston-based apps. Our guide will be Scott Kirsner, The Boston Globe’s Innovation Economy columnist.

Today, we take a look at three Boston-based apps:

- RoadAhead Highway Exit Finder
- Timbre: The Band Discovery App
- LevelUp: The Pay Phone App

If you fly often, there is an app called “Gate Guru” which will show you the different shopping venues and restaurants in airport by terminal. Also gives you reviews on the restaurants.

Hosts Meghna Chakrabarti and Anthony Brooks introduce us to newsmakers, big thinkers and artists and bring us stories of relevance to Bostonians here and around the region. Live every weekday at 3.
