‘Season To Taste: How I Lost My Sense Of Smell And Found My Way’
Molly Birnbaum had a bright culinary future.
She was learning on the job as a dishwasher in Cambridge and read cookbooks in her spare time. But a few months before she was supposed to step foot on campus at the Culinary Institute of America, her entire life changed.
It was a rainy August day in Boston but that didn’t deter Molly from her morning run. She was hit by a car and the accident resulted in a fractured skull, a broken pelvis and a severely injured knee. Weeks later, she would realize she had lost something far more devastating — her sense of smell.
“Season to Taste” is Birnbaum’s memoir about her sensory loss and her quest to understand it — and to get her sense of smell back.
