Arts Academy Sees Record Auditions

Roy'al Sanyika-Hall, 13, auditions at the Boston Arts Academy with strings instructor Bryan Brash. (Kirk Carapezza for WBUR)

Bracing for a 25 percent budget cut, teacher layoffs and increased class sizes, the Boston Arts Academy – this city’s only public school dedicated solely to the arts – has seen a record 800 students audition for just 150 spots.

Radio Boston’s Kirk Carapezza attended this year’s auditions for spots at the school.
